Neuroacupuncture: Achieving Remarkable Results

What if I told you that 3-4 acupuncture needles in the scalp could help people suffering from central nervous system disorders such as

  • stroke
  • multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • traumatic brain injury
  • cerebral palsy
  • autism
  • phantom pain
  • complex regional pain
  • tremors
  • and more!

On October 11-13, I had the opportunity to take a remarkable continuing education class called neuroacupuncture. Neuroacupuncture is a contemporary acupuncture technique integrating traditional Chinese needling methods with Western medical knowledge of neurology and neuroscience. Neuroacupuncture has been shown to be the most effective technique for treating the symptoms of acute and chronic central nervous system disorders. It has been proven to be effective in treating loss of balance, loss of hearing, dizziness, and vertigo. This type of scalp acupuncture often produces remarkable results with just a few needles. This is an advanced acupuncture technique that has caught the attention of many MDs. Our weekend class had approximately 12 MDs from around the country learning this acupuncture technique.

How does it work?

  • Acupuncture can have a direct effect on the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, thalamus, hypothalamus, and pineal body. You can stimulate the external area around the skull to affect the internal activity of the brain. Proper insertion of the needles is accompanied by special manipulation to regulate and harmonize the functional activities of the brain and body, as well as to restore and strengthen the function of the body, organs, and tissues. For example, if someone has a stroke and it affects the right side of the body with paralysis, we needle the left side of the brain's motor area. If someone has neuropathy in both feet, we needle the sensory area on both sides of the head.

Below are a couple of studies that have shown neuroacupuncture helps greatly with disorders of the nervous system.
